DESCRIPTION
The service-enriched housing in Almeda, located in Cornellà de Llobregat, provides a dignified home for people over the age of 60 who are autonomous but experiencing severe vulnerability and housing exclusion, with limited financial resources and little or no family or social support.
The project consists of adapted and fully equipped apartments, with shared spaces (such as a living room and laundry room) and a teleassistance service. It is designed for individuals who maintain their independence but are unable to access adequate housing.
The Metropolitan House Foundation will contribute, through a donation, to fully fund the project for one year.
Cáritas Diocesana de Barcelona is a social organization of the Church in the Diocese of Barcelona whose purpose is to carry out and promote social and charitable action for the most vulnerable people. Its mission is to accompany them with love, fraternity, empathy, and closeness, helping them regain their dignity and become protagonists of their own future. It does so through social action, community awareness-raising, and by speaking out against situations of social injustice.
Cáritas prioritizes attention to people in situations of greatest vulnerability and notes that many older adults experience serious situations of exclusion and social neglect, often invisible and overlooked.
For this reason, Cáritas’ social projects aimed at older people seek to ensure that this group has its basic needs adequately, dignifiedly, and sufficiently met.
They also promote greater public awareness of the reality faced by older adults and encourage community involvement in responding to these needs. Cáritas’ socio-educational work adapts to each person’s situation and pace, with a preventive and community-based approach, and promotes a vision of ageing grounded in the capacities and rights that accompany a person throughout life.
