Barcanova Foundation’s commitment to the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities
As part of our regular activities related to social action, the Foundation, together with employees of Metropolitan House, visit the facilities of the Barcanova Foundation in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda.
Last Friday we visited the Barcanova Foundation facilities at Can Taió Castle, in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. This foundation works in the socio-educational, training and social and labour insertion fields, generating opportunities and accompanying people with intellectual disabilities at different stages of their lives.
During the visit, Roser Ferré, director of the Can Taió Castle, and Francisco Sánchez, director of the Foundation School, guided us and explained the project, which has been training people with intellectual disabilities for more than 25 years.
We started at Hípica Can Taió, a riding school focused on professional, sports, therapeutic (horse-assisted therapies) and recreational training which, in addition, is a special work center where young people with intellectual disabilities are introduced intellectually in the world of work. The Ostler training course is taught here for young people with disabilities, who do maintenance work on the facilities and look after and care for the horses.
Next, we visited the Farm School Restaurant Soldevila, a project managed by the Foundation that combines integration and social work. In this center, where we were also able to enjoy the food, there is a workspace for people with disabilities and internships for cooking and catering students with specific educational needs.
It was a pleasure to get to know the work of the Fundación Barcanova up close, and we thank its director general, Xavier Ferré, and the president of the board of trustees, Maria Bach, for facilitating this visit.
